New Build Project with renewable technologies

At NexGen, people are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why hearing directly from people living with our infrared heating system is invaluable.

Their experiences help us understand real-world performance and answer the questions we constantly look to achieve; delivering comfort warmth, the impact on energy bills and overall quality of life.

We’re delighted to share feedback from a family who moved into one of Hedyn’s – formerly Newport City Homes new-build flats. In 2024, the Welsh housing association completed an 18 flat new build project in Lliswerry Wales, these included innovative technologies such as Solar Panels on the shared roof and NexGen Infrared Heating throughout each home. These technologies pair seamlessly together, not only delivering clean, renewable heat, the controls for the zonal infrared heating system give each tenant the control of when and how long to heat for. This is both a win for the tenants who have direct control of their energy bills and the building is future proofed for the changing world reaching Net Zero and protecting the buildings fabric.

One year on, their insights continue to shape how we innovate and improve, ensuring our heating solutions don’t just work – they enhance peoples lives.

‘I have found the Next Gen heating system to be absolutely excellent. It’s efficient, and I really like how the heat stays in, keeping my home warm for longer without needing to constantly have it running. It heats up quickly, and the warmth it provides feels similar to natural sunlight, creating a cosy and comfortable atmosphere. Within just five minutes of turning it on, the room feels lovely and warm, and this heat holds for a long time, making it very efficient and reliable.

One of my favourite features is being able to set the thermostat to a specific temperature, and the system will automatically turn on and off to maintain that perfect level of warmth. Since having this heating, I haven’t had any problems with damp or condensation, which has made a significant difference to my home.

As a parent, I’ve always been cautious about leaving the heating on overnight, as it usually feels unhealthy and uncomfortable. However, since moving into a home with the Next Gen heating system, this has completely changed. During the cold winter months, we were able to set the heating to a steady temperature overnight, allowing it to turn on and off as needed to maintain the perfect warmth. My family would wake up feeling refreshed and comfortable, with no negative side effects. Most importantly, my baby’s feet were never cold, which, as any parent knows, makes all the difference for a happy and healthy child.

Living in a flat without a balcony or garden, drying clothes can sometimes be a challenge. However, with this heating system, I simply set my bathroom heating to a low level and use a drying rack. The clothes dry quickly and effectively, and the room never feels damp. This approach is also far more cost-effective than using a tumble dryer, helping me save money while keeping my home free of excess moisture.

Another fantastic feature is the smart app, which allows me to control the heating in each individual room rather than the whole home at once. This provides greater flexibility and helps save energy and reduce costs, as I only need to heat the rooms I’m actually using. The app is straightforward once you are familiar with it, making daily control simple and convenient.

I have experienced one minor technical issue, where a fuse failed in the control room, but as soon as I raised the concern, it was resolved quickly and efficiently, which gave me confidence in both the system and the level of support provided.

I genuinely love this heating system and would highly recommend it to others. I’m incredibly happy to live in a home with this new technology, and I feel very fortunate to have such a modern, efficient, and reliable way to keep my home warm and comfortable.’
