Office building, Southampton
Project Name
- Client: Supreme Freight
- Date: January 2026
- Category: Commercial / retrofit office heating
Pre-Installation Findings
Client Situation:
Three floor office building is located in a busy residential location in Southampton. The building is heated by an Air Source Heat Pump.
Issue:
The business receives complaints from its residential neighbours about the noise described as a constant hum. As a result, the business turns off the ASHP at the weekends when the building is unoccupied. It is switched on again on Monday mornings.
Staff complain that the building is very cold and in the winter months can take until Tuesday afternoon to feel warm. Staff wear additional layers including coats and hand mittens to keep warm during the cold time.
Air Source Heat Pump
ASHP’s are not designed to be turned off and on, optimum performance is documented in use cases of well insulated buildings, when the outside temperature doesn’t fluctuate to extremes. The UK this January (2026) experienced extended periods of weather temperatures from -4 to 12 degrees in a single day, for multiple days at a time.

NexGen Solution: Infrared Suspended Ceiling Tiles & Infrared Ceiling Paper
Tenant Situation:
The building already had a suspended ceiling frame, NexGen Infrared Ceiling Tiles were installed by removing some of the existing tiles and replacing with the infrared heating tiles. These were specifically positioned over the pods of desks were staff worked.
Quick Install:
Due the existing suspended ceiling frame in place, the installation was quick, causing little disruption to the work force. A central cupboard was identified to house the Power Supply Units on each floor.
Fast delivery of comfort warmth:
The heating system is set on a daily programme to deliver targeted heat. The client is reporting that heating for a few hours first thing each morning is enough to retain heat in the building for the duration of the working day. Staff are happier as they are comfortable and no longer need to wear additional layers to keep warm.
No noise:
None of the NexGen Infrared Heating systems produce a noise, in this environment this is keeping the complaints at bay.
